A  rolling road session took place with four Surrey Members and two non members. Our aim was to get a report on how our engines were performing and get that all important BHP reading. Mathew was the guy in charge of preceedings, lets see what happened.

Kev's MK 1 3.0 was first on the rollers, Matt went through the gears a couple of times just to get the engine warmed up. Then he went for it, reaching 6,000rpm in top gear, the sound of your engine doing that can be a bit daunting to say the least, but no damage was done. Matt said it was running to lean, and very lumpy, only producing 123 BHP.

Gary's 3.0 Ghia auto was next up, he had his Capri on the rollers only a couple of weeks earlier somewhere else, so wanted to compare that with this one. Matt took it through it's paces with no ill effects, resulting in a BHP figure of 121. Gary was a little disappointed with this, as a reading of around 150 had been achieved on his other run, still 121BHP is not bad for a standard Essex engine with well in excess of 100,000 miles on it.

Viren's MK1 1.6GT

Chris Bolton's 2.8i

Viren's MK 1 has a standard pinto engine, with loads of miles under it's wheels, and a slow rear wheel puncture, it produced 89 BHP, which was about right. Viren was happy with it anyway.
Chris's gleaming paint work and low profile tyres makes his Capri look awesome. Matt revved it through the gears but was not to happy with it's performance, it produced 130BHP. Chris later found out it was only firing on five cylinders, still no damage done.
Iain's 2.8i
Paul Hilleard's
  2.8i Special
Iain's 2.8 was next under the spotlight, he was'nt aware of any problems with his regularly used Capri. Matt done his stuff again, but had to abort the run owing to severe pinking. Iain was surprised about this, but had to come off the rollers.
Paul's Capri was brought off of ebay, he had stripped out all the interior, and had on going bodywork in progress. The engine was ok producing 126 BHP, but Paul would have liked more.

By the results you can see we all came away with something to think about, but it was a good day, one to be repeated once  we have all had a tinker about with our engines.
