April 11th - Old Skool Ford Boxhill Meet, Surrey.

Five Surrey members braved the Easter Saturday rain for the first OSF Boxhill meet of '09. Leaving the Harrow in convoy just before 10am we arrived at Boxhill some twenty minutes later. A good selection of motors had already arrived despite the grim weather. The day consisted of the usual chit-chat catch up amongst members and plenty of hot drinks. New member Mike Nash had come along with his Sebring Red RS3100, well done to him for bringing it out in the wet conditions. Nic Wells had also borrowed Mark's 3.1 Mk1 for the day, a nice treat for him. The rain continued on and off for most of the day, but we still enjoyed it. Roll on the next one!
Convoy from the Harrow, Anthony Mk3, Gary C Mk3, Neil 2.8i, Nic Mk1, Paul Mk1. Kevin in daily driver (not Capri).

April 26th - Classic Ford Show, Whitewebbs Transport Museum, Enfield, Middx.

An annual event that I or the Club have never been to. With the weather leading up to to this show more like Mid-Summer than early Spring, I decided at the last minute to book myself in as an individual exhibitor. The morning dawned with blue skies and the forecast was for it to stay that way all day, which it did! The venue is only small holding approximately 60 cars, Club stands are limited to three cars only which are positioned at the front of the Museum. Individuals are parked up in the grounds amongst the autojumblers / out buildings. We met up with some fellow Capri owners/Club members that had booked themselves in. The day proved very enjoyable with some stunning cars on display in the pleasant surroundings, it was also nice to meet some people we've never met before. All in all a great day. May 10th - CCI National, Evesham, Worcs.

Five of us were travelling in convoy on the M3 just before 6.30am on a Sunday morning bound for CCI HQ at Badgers Hill, Evesham. Under clear blue skies we made our way out onto the M25 and then the M40. Another member from the Bracknell area joined us at High Wycombe. We made good time on the quiet roads arriving at 8.45am. Five more Surrey members were to meet us within the next half an hour. With the Club gazebo, banner and photo boards all set up, it was time for some of us to grab some late breakfast, or for those who couldn't wait, head off in the direction of the autojumble. The whole day remained dry, sunny and warm, this made for a good turnout, I heard figures of around 170 Capri's had attended. Some of our members put their cars in for the judging, Gold, Silver and Bronze awards were the catergories plus the coveted Concourse award. A very enjoyable day was had by all, it certainly helps (as with any outdoor event) when the weather is on your side, by 5pm we had packed everything away and headed off home. Apart from a two mile stretch of road that had loose chippings laid that afternoon, an easy drive with no hold ups was had by everyone. See you again next year Badgers Hill.

May 31st - Classic Ford Show, Santa Pod.

Our eight car Club stand enjoyed a hot, sun drenched day at the Pod. This was the hottest I've ever known it to be there. With some of us arriving just before 8am after an easy drive up the M1, and experiencing no long queues at the entrance (like last year) we certainly had enough time to look around at everything on display. The Classic Ford stand was celebrating 40 years of the Capri and 50 years of the Anglia. Amongst the 'star cars' on display were the Mk2 Capri from the TV series Minder, a Mk3 Capri from the Professionals, and an un-registered 280 Brooklands Capri. A lovely Mk1 RS3100 was also unveiled from it's dust cover at noon, the owner is known to me, he seemed very proud (if not a little nervous of the crowds surrounding it) to have it on a display platform. The pride of ownership line up consisted of more Capri's, as did the Club stands area. It seemed that every Capri owner from everywhere was out making the most of the great weather, and with it being the 40th year....etc, you didn't have to wonder far before seeing another Capri. Track action was on all day with cars blasting up the 1/4 mile strip, Capri's, Escort's, Anglia's, Cortina's, both standard and modified made a great sight under the blue skies. The Jet car also made a couple of runs, running up the strip at over 200mph in around 6 seconds is something definitely worth seeing. A plethora of Trade & Autojumble stands were assembled if you fancied having a break from looking at the cars on display. I reckon they must have had a good day with takings with the thousands of people that were there. Some of our members started to head for home at 4pm, myself and two others joined the queue to the exit at 4.30pm. We eventually left the Santa Pod grounds at 6pm!!......Not sure why this queue was so slow, I can only think it was due to the volume of cars trying to get out at the same time. Still, this didn't spoil our day, I arrived home safe and sound at 8.30pm, thoroughly knackered and sunburnt, but hey!....what a day.
