February 23/24 - Alexandra Palace International Classic Car Show.

This was our forth year at this show, the Surrey Capri Club were once again representing the Capri Club International at this prestigious event. Show organiser Andrew Greenwood had given us enough space to display two capri's. My Mk1 3.0 GT and Surrey member Mike Foreman's Mk2 3.0 Ghia were the chosen cars. Throughout the two day show, our capri's drew lot's of attention from the paying public. Questions were duly answered about our cars and the club itself, and photo's were taken from every angle possible. To our surprise and delight at the prize giving on the Sunday, Mike's capri picked up a runner's up award in the 70's saloon class. This rounded our weekend off a treat and made the effort of building and organising the stand all worthwhile. No doubt we will be back again next year!

Old Skool Ford Boxhill Meet - March 8th.

Seven Surrey Capri Club members made up the convoy from the Harrow to Boxhill. Under very cloudy skies we left at just after 9.45am, twenty minutes later we were parked up at Boxhill and ordering our late breakfast in Rykas cafe. A steady stream of Old Fords filled the car park by mid-day. Our capris attracted the roving eye and camera lens of RetroFord magazine features Editor Chris Pollitt, who came along in his Mk2 3.0S. Hopefully some of his pics will find there way into a future edition of the mag. Occasional bouts of drizzle didn't dampen our spirits, but by one o'clock the drizzle had turned into proper rain, so we called it a day and headed home. It was a well attended meet despite the grim weather, hopefuly the next one will be blessed in summer sunshine. - Convoy crew were; Kevin Mk1 3.0: Alan Green Mk3 2.0S: Gary Chapman Mk3 3.0: Iain Bunce Mk3 2.8i: Neil Soutter Mk3 2.8i: Nic Wells Mk3 2.8i, Paul Bradford Mk1 2.1.

May 11th - CCI National, Badgers Hill, Evesham.

This year our club stand consisted of seven capris, two Mk1's and five Mk3's. We all arrived at the show field's just after 9am. Five of us were in convoy from the start, a sixth member met us just North of Oxford and our seventh car joined us there. With blue skies lasting all day, this was one of the hottest Nationals I have experienced, our club stand looked great under the blistering sun. During the day three of us took our capris to the judging area, hoping to pick up a prize later in the day. We were all successful, Simon with his Mk1-1.6 collected second prize in the Mk1 Concourse, Margaret picked up a Gold award & certificate with her Mk3 2.0, (this is the first time she has taken her capri to Evesham!) and I got a Bronze award & certificate with my Mk1 3.0. The autojumble was a little dissapointing this year, seems the spares are getting hard to find now, but this didn't spoil the day in anyway whatsoever. With three or four fields filled with all types of capris from modified to standard, club stands and the CCI club shop, a great day was had by all. Even the sunburn and our dusty stand position didn't matter, although we will definitely park up somewhere else next year. We left Badgers Hill at 4.25pm again in convoy, everyone arrived home safe and sound by 7- 7.30 after a trouble free journey. Truly an awesome day!!

Old Skool Ford Boxhill Meet - May 24th.

Nine of us met up at Boxhill for the second OSF meet there of 2008, with eight of us travelling in convoy from the Harrow. With the usual mix of Escorts, Cortina's, Anglia's and the odd American motor amongst our's and other Capris made for a great day. The weather also did us proud with a beautifully warm, if not a hot day. The OSF Boxhill meets are a great way of spending three or four hours on a Saturday looking around at some Old Fords. Roll on the next one!  Convoy crew - Kevin Mk1 3.0; Alan Green Mk3 2.0; Magaret Mk3 2.0; Gary C Mk3 3.0; Nic Mk3 2.8i; Jamie Mk3 2.8i; Paul Mk1 2.1; Iain Mk3 2.8i:

June 1st - Classic Ford Show, Santa Pod.

Ten of us made the annual trip up to the Pod for the Classic Ford show. Eight of us travelled in convoy on the M1 meeting two more members at Toddington Services at 8am. On arrival at the Pod we joined a small queue to show our tickets, then joined a long queue before we reached our allotted stand space. This long queue proved too much for one of our members capris, Mark's 3.1 Essex engine had had enough and began to overheat! He pulled over to one side, switched it off, opened the bonnet and waited for us to come back once we had found our stand space and push his capri up to the stand. I think this made him feel better, team work and all that!! Alison duly obliged with the camera getting some action shots of the 'Big Push!'
Racing on the quarter mile strip was delayed because of the damp weather conditions, so we all went our own way looking around at the various Ford club, Trade & Autojumble stands before having lunch. The standard of cars on display was excellent, with some stunning restored and modified capris that I haven't seen before. A Ric Wood engined Mk1 - Essex V6 with triple webbers was awesome, so was a Bronze Mk3 that I spotted. I recognised this from the Tickover website, massive V8 engine, X Pack bodykit with a modified bonnet, absolutely stunning! After chatting to the owner I found out it had cost him at least £30,000...!!
The noise of high revving engines made us aware that the strip was now open, and with the Jet car due to make an appearance at 2pm we all made our way to an advantage spot for viewing this. The rest of the day was spent watching the racing as well as continued looking around at just about everything. Some of us had planned on taking our capris up the strip, but with the delayed start and long queue getting in, time had beaten us, maybe next year!
Mark had fixed his overheating problem (electric fan not working) and by 4pm we decided to leave. No problems leaving the Pod, but the M1 was at a snails pace at times. Fortunately the M25 was clear and we were all home safely by 7.30pm. Hopefuly next year the grass parking area at the Pod won't be waterlogged and we can get parked up quicker and have plenty of time to organise a run or two up the strip. Classic Ford Show 2009 - Bring it on!!!
